Sustainability in Building


Taghkanic House

  • Minimize use of concrete via use of pier foundations

  • Effective thermal envelope including fully insulated first level flooring

  • Minimize use of environmentally impactful materials such as extruded foam insulation in favor of green products such as rockwool

  • Installation of efficient mechanical systems such as zoned ducted mini-split mechanical system, energy recovery ventilator, tankless water heater

  • Use of propane as a cleaner burning fuel, saving high electrical loads for cooking and drying

  • Sensitivity to sourcing, local vendors, and material waste to reduce the need for excessive deliveries and transportation

  • Planting of native grasses, plants and trees, and establishing a meadow in lieu of a lawn

BLOCK Sustainability Initiative

  • Leading large cross-functional team to set goals and benchmarks as well as identify quick-win initiatives

  • Coordination and communication between key stakeholders cross-functionally to keep aligned on initiatives

Retail:  Design team representative for Block's flagship retail launch (summer 2022)

  • Coordination with external consultants for showroom design, flow, and content.

  • Return feedback, redlines, and commentary on all test fits and proposed merchandising strategies

  • Design of kitchen and bathrooms in space to align with Block offerings and standards

  • Design of feature mockups as well as material storage, palettes, and client-facing material boards.


DEI: Established cross-functional working group to help address equity problems as well as support activism

  • Started an employee-matching donation program for organizations that support equitable change in America (Such as Southern Poverty Law Center, ACLU, OneGoal)

  • Bridged the need for a space to have discussions related to DEI (in context of hiring, growth, representation) in the absence of an HR or Head of People.

  • Build Manual: improvement of contractor-facing construction documents with a focus on error reduction, elimination of redundant drafting/inputs, process and incorporate feedback from downstream teams.

  • Detail Library: Creation of BLOCK standard details. Oversee, redline, and approve creation and addition of new details.

  • Creation of systems for collecting and processing feedback from up- and downstream teams, as well as addressing and launching updates to processes and collateral

  • Revit: creation and maintenance of contractor-facing documents to relieve RFI quantity and improve project quality
